I can’t stop thinking the negative thoughts
Hey love! I was teaching my in-person Meditation Embodiment class and had one of my friends and students ask me the most PROFOUND question.
This is what she said:
What if I can’t get the negative thoughts to stop?
I know I am not supposed to be thinking the things I am thinking. I really am trying to shift the thought and replace it with something else but it just won’t go away.
I honestly just smiled because wow, what an amazing question. I was a little shocked we had not talked about this in class recently because I believe this is something everyone, and I mean everyone, experiences.
If you are new to working through limiting beliefs and subconscious patterns, you may have heard about positive thinking and using mantras and affirmations but that doesn’t mean you transform overnight. And it sure as hell doesn’t mean that you never have unwanted or challenging thoughts.
Even if you have been on your healing journey for 10 years and have significantly shifted your mindset, you will still have intrusive thoughts and experience restrictive thinking.
The reason for this is because meditation, mindset work, positive thinking, etc. does NOT cure you from thinking bad things. The mind works independently. It thinks without command.
Mindset, mindfulness and embodiment exercises are a tool to helping you navigate difficult emotions and thinking but it does not prevent it. Using these tools help you understand that you are NOT your thoughts. You learn to observe what you are thinking and feelings without identifying with it and without allowing it to influence and control you.
This is what I told my friend:
When you experience an unwanted thought or find yourself stuck in a loop, instead of avoiding the thought, dig a little deeper.
Instead of trying to change thought, accept that the thought exists within you. You can acknowledge that the thought and emotion are currently part of you even if you consciously know you do not wish to feel or think that way.
The thought is there for a reason. Ask yourself what is the reason. Why do you feel this way? What are you afraid of? Why does this thought or thinking pattern exist in the first place?
Accept that this is just where you are in this moment. It is okay to know you still question your self-worth and yet want to eventually believe in yourself. You are allowed to experience and know both things.
We don’t shift our mindset through avoidance. We shift through acceptance.
When we can fully accept our true self, exactly where we are, even if we know it is now where we want to stay, we make space for love, compassion and understanding. Accepting who we are, even when we are not our best, is crucial to our growth and healing!
Working with your own Kundalini energy helps you have more awareness and acceptance around your thoughts and emotions. Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. My life completely transformed when I started connecting with my Kundalini energy. We have a free 40-day challenge going on where we practice the same Kundalini Kriya every day for 40 days straight! I invite you to join us and see what shifts you experience!
If you want HUGE shifts and to connect with your true self, I invite you to check out my 1:1 offerings.
